Teacher notes – Unit 2
Learning aim: Students write a short advert for an object they want to sell, using adjectives in the correct order.
Before writing: Write the order on the board as a simple chain: OPINION → SIZE → AGE → COLOUR → NATIONALITY → NOUN. Give one clear example: ‘a lovely small red Italian bicycle’. Drill with quick questions: ‘red / big / bag — what order?’ → ‘a big red bag’.
During writing: Remind students that adverts use short sentences — one idea per line. Check that at least two adjectives appear in the correct order.
Common errors: (1) Wrong adjective order: ‘a red lovely bicycle’. (2) Missing capital letter for nationalities (Italian, not italian). (3) Writing long sentences instead of short punchy ones.
After writing: Students read a partner’s advert and underline the adjectives. Are they in the correct order?
